Windows 95 Instructions
- Double click My Computer on the desktop to open it.
- Double Click Control Panel (if you don’t see control panel, use the scroll bars to make sure it is visible and try selecting View - Arrange - Auto Arrange from the menu).
- Double Click Add/Remove Programs.
- Click the Windows Setup tab. This presents a series of software categories such as accessories, Microsoft Network, etc. You can highlight any category and examine the specific programs within it by clicking the details button.
- Highlight Communications and select the details button.
- Make sure there is a checkmark beside Dial-Up Networking. If there is not, click inside the box to select it for installation.
- After this is done, choose OK twice to return to Control Panel, then close the Control Panel.
Network Settings
- Double-Click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
- Double-Click the Control Panel folder.
- Double-Click the Network Icon.
- Under The following network components are installed, double-click TCP/IP.
- Click DNS Configuration.
- Choose Disable DNS.
- Click OK. Click OK again. If a window appears telling you to restart your computer, click Yes.
Connecting to Connect.
- To setup to dial into Connect with Windows 95, you will use a program called either: Get on the Internet OR Internet Setup Wizard. To get to this program do the following:
- Click Start.
- Click Programs.
- Click Accessories.
- Click Internet Tools.
- You should see either "Get on the Internet" or "Internet Setup Wizard". Choose the one that applies. If neither is there then proceed to Page 4 titled Internet Explorer 4.0
- You will see the Get Connected screen, Click Next.
- Under Setup options click the circle beside Manual. Then click Next.
- You will see a screen that says "Welcome to Internet Setup!" Click Next.
- You will then be asked what method you want to use to connect to the Internet. Choose Connect Using my Phone Line, then click Next.
- You will be asked if you want to use windows messaging, choose No, then click Next.
- You will be asked for the name of the service provider, type Connect in the space provided. Then click Next.
- Enter the Phone number with area code:
Click Next.
- Type in (in lower case) your username and password (found at the beginning of the instructions) and click Next.
- You will be asked how you obtain your IP Address. Choose My Internet Provider automatically assigns me one. Click Next.
- You may be prompted to disable file and printer sharing on the Internet. Choose Yes.
- You will be prompted for two DNS addresses. Leave the two boxes blank, and click Next. Another box will appear, warning you of the blank boxes. Click Yes to continue.
- Click Finish to complete the setup for connection to the Internet.
To connect, double-click The Internet icon, choose to use the current settings, type in your Username and Password, and click the Connect button.
E-Mail
Connect has an easy way for you to check your email - without learning new complicated software! It's called Web.Mail - The Web address is http://mail.conninc.com.
Follow these simple instructions to access your mail account:
- Open your browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) and connect to the Internet.
- Highlight and delete the address currently shown in the browser's "address" window.
- Carefully type the following into the "address" window:
http://mail.conninc.com
- Hit the "enter" key on your keyboard and the Emurl page will appear.
- Enter the first part of your email address into the login name blank (everything before the @ sign), and enter your email password into the password blank.
- Click "enter" on the screen
- You will then see buttons to "Check Mail" and "Compose"
TIP! Save the email address in your favorites list or make it your start page.
